I did a fishing

'Oi Oi' - I greet you today with a traditional Essex greeting, having recently spent 3 days in the blessed county, in the sea estuaryside town of Southend; famous for its faux-London accent, pier and choice female populous. Me and 3 friends went on a fishing trip, and, regardless of 4am awakenings, I found the whole experience enthralling. For the record, I caught a flounder, which I punched. Yes, I punched a fish. A fact we all decided was a step down from punching a bear, so pretty much a solid win for me.

Other than that, the last week (our University's reading week) has seen me making my project, which, if you have the time to kill, you can have a sneak peek here. Feel free to let me know if you find anything wrong with it. At least I did more than last year. I amused myself re-reading this post - a year later, and here's me with my level 70 Hunter... Oh dear John...

A sign of things to come?

So I haven't been feeling great recently, exploding laptops aside, so I decided to cheer myself up by watching some of my comedy DVD's, a task which sounds easier then it turned out to be. Some of you maybe aware I moved house twice last year as a result I still haven't unpacked alot of my stuff (infact I only set up my desktop PC earlier this month relying solely on the pile of scorched-silicon-previously-known-as-laptop, a testament to my lack of recent gaming or the power of my expensive dell doorstop I'll let you decide).
Well anyway the usefulness of packing everything into large blue unlabeled plastic boxes became an interesting source of frustration as I searched through 15 or so boxes, 4 of which contained roughly 150 DVD's it was of course inevitable the DVD's I searched for would be in the bottom of the box at the bottom of the pile of heaviest boxes, so I started looking there. They were not in there, if my life contained any sense of narrative irony it should have been in the box originally at the top of the stack of heavy boxes now at the bottom, however it was infact somewhere around the middle of the stack.

So I found the DVD's I was searching for in the end, my Eddie Izzard boxset, he is arguably my favorite Yemenite, and possibly my favorite comedian. Those of you unaware of his work my gift to you is this, one of my favorite sketches of his via the medium of lego.

This post turned out longer then I expected, I apologise and offer by way of recompense a view of things to come. My previously promised views on fallout 3, new BSG, along with a mention of new Lost and Heroes, and a quick review of the new Whedon series, Dollhouse. A new comic is all but written so expect that when you see it, and possibly also the return of the dotCommentarys.

The day the music (games and videos) died.

You may or may not know I own a dell laptop, not just any dell laptop but one featuring the fantastically featured 8400M graphics chip. Why is this relevant I hear you ask, well some of you may recognize this as one of the chips effected by a manufacturing fault so I knew it was only a matter of time before the laptop failed due to overheating and this week it decided this was the right time to do it, in the middle of reading week, when I'm hard at work on my research project, nice.

Let it never be said my laptop lacked some form of poetic license, for it choose as its last words How it ends by DeVotchka, which I may add is a great song even if your laptop dies whilst playing it.

Needless to say this will delay my next few blog posts as any of you that know how I compile them know I rely on the laptop for it.

The dell dude (not the irritating pot smoking bill and ted wannabe from those god awful adverts) comes on monday to fix it so until then

I Love Lucy...

I/we really do; but enough of that, here's a comic:
This idea has been knocking about for a while - with various topics and themes running, but with the same punchline. I am lead to believe that such a shrine exists in Terry's house, but, as no journalist has been allowed access to that region, only this mock-up exists as a testament to his unholy addiction to Ms. Lawless.

Now, for the next 3 days, I will be away fishing. No, really. I look forward to catching something resembling a fish and smoking a big fat cigar to celebrate. See you all on Friday.

Great kid, don't get cocky...

Task: Watch this. Prizes go to the person who gets the most Star Wars references.

Clue: They are from about 0:00 to ~2:14

Also: Loving the catchy 90's tune near the end (In the Meantime - Spacehog).

JB
Definitely pin this for a UK release, no?

Hey you!, Long time no see.

Just a quick post today to reassure you all I'm still around. I'm hoping you all enjoyed our special edition blogaversary comic and we hope youve all enjoyed reading them as much as we have making them. That done with expect several post from me over the next few days as I give my opinions on fallout 3, left4dead and explain exactly why the last season of Battlestar Galactica has been the greatest sci-fi in the last 15 years.

Oh and as John mentioned and my personal twitter feed revealed the next comic is currently being finalized and if your very lucky you may see it this week.

2/5. Tweeting. 17.

Handed in my second piece of coursework of this year today - leaving 3 more. Joy. Coupled with a upcoming week of project work, a 12,000 word report and a Cisco certification to finish, it would appear that all this degree malarkey is getting very real. There appears to be no emoticon that can express the 'need to do work' emotion.

As Terry posted Tweeted earlier, our next comic is in the works. This will probably be my only source of fun in the coming weeks, due to the need to learn Flash. Still.

We can always enjoy this mini-epic, however. On a $500 budget (bullshit tbh), the fan-made Half-Life 2 film; Escape from City 17.

Watching the Watchmen (production diary)

Paramount are hosting a new and revamped Watchmen site. Probably due to the recent court cases passing through and the March 6th date is now concrete. This site doesn't crash Firefox either!

Though its quite obvious that I'm getting completely rolled up in the hype-machine for this film - the site is fantastic - with what I hope are character theme music. Silk Spectre's page is a near-perfect fit for her character. Plus, I love the sweepy transition between the character stills.

They also include the production diary (they call them Webisodes) which look into how they keep repeating the 'keep the look of the novel' mantra. It seems to have Dave Gibbons' approval, so, I guess that will have to do.

March 6th can't come fast enough.

Videogame Cover Re-Imaginations

Kotaku posted this story, with its origins in the Something Awful forums, about 're-imagining video game covers' - many based in classic film style, and the old Ladybird book covers. This hit the web some time ago, but has been on my mind ever since. Almost to the point of inspiring me to create my own... We'll see about that.

Some of the forum entries are quite bland - and in some cases - a clarifying moment of 'should I post this crap' would have been ideal - but amongst it all, and to be honest, condensed in the Kotaku link, are some of the best posts.

This site also features some excellent Photoshop-pery from the old Atari games.

Keep an eye out in case I suddenly decide to post something related to this.

JB
Probably my most favourite is the Doom cover... Mainly for iconic and simplistic parody.

Anniversary Comic

As promised:A comic that finally incorporates its creators- lazily using our Facebook profile pictures. Not only does it literally poke fun at our creation/drawing process, it's deeper connotation suggests that I am the equivalent to the character we have come to call 'Hatty', and Terry is the equivalent to - you guessed it - 'Hairy'.

As Terry came up with this, I am at liberty to get mildly angry at him for basically taking the piss out of how I draw, but, these upstart writer-types are often too busy penning Shakespearean sonnets (...or something... I think), to actually stop and consider the painstaking process of drawing these; often using nothing more than scraps of Japanese financial newspaper and rudimentary pencil's made of misery.

Please enjoy this comic, thanks for reading; I'll leave you with news that the Japanese interest rate has, yet again, remained steady.

JB
Does this mean misery can be sharpened? Like wit, perhaps?

Happy Birthday dotGif

A year ago today, Terry posted his first entry to this, the tome of all dotGif related knowledge - known by few as the Galacticula Gifcarta - known by more as the dotGif blog.

So, appropriately; Happy Birthday to us!

Check the blog this evening for a present from us to you, to celebrate this joyous day. Any and all presents you, our loyal readers, see fit to send us will be greatly appreciated. We accept cheque, Paypal or cold hard cash.

Other people who are (or would be) celebrating today: Rick Astley, Axl Rose, Bob Marley and David 'The voice of Solid Snake' Hayter. So, happy birthday guys. Good ol' Wikipedia.

You've got your SKU's in my Windows 7

Microsoft have revealed the SKU's (Stock Keeping Unit's - 'versions') that will be available for Windows 7. It seems that they are going with the Microsoft way of thinking rather than the Apple way (funny, that...)

Welcome (again...) to the party; Starter, Home Basic & Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate.

Also available; Chunky, Smoky Bacon, Chipolte, Joy, Autumn, Kenny Loggin's... So, it turns out that joke will crop up every 3-4 years for the next 20 years, I guess.

Look, I Have Friends!

It turns out this whole Blogosphere thing is really catching on in the West Midlands. 2 more of my friends have decided to to put electric-pen to electric-paper and started their own blogs.

The curiously well titled 'The Entity of Me' (Chris) & 'Day Before Pass' (Luke) are now both live, and seem to cover their lives as they gear up for some American adventures this summer.

They join my other housemates blog/art journal 'Luke Booker' (or Bookerblog', as it's name probably should be...)

Ill take three please!!!

The portal gun was cool.

However, it is the epitome of lame, compared to this. The M12 Light Reconnaissance Vehicle - or as we like to call it in the industry: 'The Warthog'.

I call Shotgun.

About Last Night...

Something called a Superbowl happened last night. This is important for one reason; as far as I can see - overpriced advert time for massive summer films! Yay!

Films like TRANSFORMERS REVENGE OF THE FALLEN. CAPS-YAY!

Nothing else really compared, but the nice folks at Cupertino put together a nice page full of HD wholesomeness.
